Nancy Botwin Reyes (previously Scottson) is the main character in Showtime's dramedy Weeds. A widowed mother of three living in an affluent suburb near Los Angeles, California, she makes ends meet by selling cannabis, often with disastrous consequences to herself and others. How exactly she became a drug dealer has never been revealed, though in the pilot episode it's revealed that she met her supplier Heylia James through her brother-in-law Andy, who is close friends with Conrad Shepard.
Nancy Botwin is played by Mary-Louise Parker, who won a Golden Globe and a Satellite Award for her portrayal, as well as being nominated for several Emmy Awards.
Nancy Botwin met her husband Judah while attending Berkeley, where he was doing performance art and hired Nancy as a dancer for one of his performance pieces. the two of them dated for several years before getting married shortly after Judah's graduation with an engineering degree. The two were married for almost 17 years before he suddenly dies of a heart attack while jogging with their younger son Shane. Nancy is left almost penniless by her husband's death. Nancy quickly becomes the top dealer for Agrestic, to the dismay of other dealers in the area. In the pilot, Doug Wilson's son Josh tells her that the other dealers all resent her for the speed with which she established herself as a dealer.
In order to protect herself legally, she and her boyfriend get married after it is revealed that he is a DEA agent and she runs the most successful business in selling cannabis. This backfires, however, and Nancy becomes a widow for a second time.
Nancy finds love again in Esteban, the mayor. Nancy gives birth to a third son and marries for the third time, her future uncertain.
Andy tries to convince her to leave Esteban and run away with him, since he recently came into a large amount of his late brother's money, but she instead decides to leave Andy to live with Esteban.
The night when her third baby was born, Pilar enters, telling her that her "little milk ball" should never have been born, and he is endangering Esteban's political career. Nancy later writes Andy's name on Stevie Ray's birth certificate, and informs Esteban that he will not have anything to do with the baby.
Soon, Shane is shot in the arm, in an assassination that was meant for Nancy. Cesar reveals that the assassination was set up by Pilar.

In the season finale, Esteban reveals that his only two options were jail or politics. At a fundraiser at Pilar's house, Cesar tells her that Pilar will now be calling the shots. She then tells Nancy that Silas and Shane are "extraneous" and by killing them, it would help Esteban's campaign. Nancy is infuriated, and tells Pilar that if she touches her children, she'll kill Pilar. In the fifth-season cliffhanger, Shane suddenly hits Pilar with a croquet mallet, causing her to fall into the pool, bleeding from the head, apparently dead.
